1. BWU Fifth Congress
Every two years, the BWU organizes a conference and has been mandated under the BWU constitution. During these conferences, we review our accomplishments, discuss future programs and activities, and elect new leaders for the upcoming term. Our fifth conference will be held in July 2007.
With the financial support of the Volunteer Service Oversea (VSO), BWU fifth congress was held from 1-4 October 2007in the border town of Thailand. There were 30 women who are representatives of BWU different regions, and observers those are working actively at BWU programs. For the first day, the congress started opening speech by chairperson of from the last two years, reporting of each of the programs activities and regional activities , financial department reporting, after reporting, all the representatives reviewed and evaluated with the indication of success and weaknesses, review and evaluate BWU’s networking activities (e.g. international advocacy, regional collaboration, etc.), Laid down BWU future work planning: Reports and discussions on current international and regional political situation, analyzed and debated BWU’s official position regarding humanitarian assistant, human trafficking, foreign investment, etc., Review BWU’s constitution and BWU’s aims and objectives after reviewing, BWU constitution was amended, and debate potential changes, analyze current local political context (the pro-democracy movement; the women’s movements; inside Burma etc...)
As for the last day, we analyzed the current update of BWU’s budget activities, fundraising, and debate and discuss future work plans and elections of new CEC/board of BWU for the next two years. After the election, the following 9 women were elected as Central Executive Committee members of BWU; they are Mi Sue Pwint (chairperson), Khin Ohmar (voice chairperson) Tin Tin Nyo (general secretary), Noe Noe Htet San (joint general secretary 1), Naw Lay Dee (joint general secretary 2), Tin Tin Nwe (member), Mar Mar Aye (member), Aye Aye Myint (member) and Nyein Nyein (member).
